Climate & Sustainability Strategy
Climate change affects every part of development in Africa. Our approach treats climate resilience as a design requirement, not an add-on.
Four principles
Screen every project
All projects are screened for climate risk and designed for future conditions, including heat, flooding, drought and sea-level rise.
Renewable first
Solar and other renewable energy are the default choice for new power needs, from water pumps to clinics.
Nature-based solutions
Restoring mangroves, forests and watersheds protects communities and supports livelihoods.
Do no harm
Environmental and social safeguards are applied to construction, industry and natural-resource projects.
Adaptation and mitigation
Most African communities need adaptation first: water security, resilient housing, climate-smart agriculture and early warning. At the same time, renewable energy, clean cooking and efficient buildings reduce emissions and costs. AMAF's programmes are designed to deliver both where possible.
