Our History
AMAF is a young foundation with a long-term ambition. This page records the milestones of our development as they happen.
Origins in Zanzibar
AMAF was established in 2024 in Zanzibar, United Republic of Tanzania, as a non-profit Company Limited by Guarantee. Its founders set out to create an African-led institution that could connect communities' needs with the finance, expertise and partners required to meet them.
Building the foundation
Since its establishment, AMAF has completed its registration, licensing and tax formalities and developed its institutional profile, and is building relationships with public authorities and potential partners. In 2026 AMAF restructured its programme framework into six development systems and 24 programme pillars, and introduced the Sustainable Community Model.
