Programme overview
AMAF's flagship energy concept: a pipeline of solar mini-grids, standalone systems and public-facility electrification, structured with governments, utilities and financiers to reach last-mile communities.
Intended community benefits
- Household lighting and phone charging
- Powered clinics and schools
- Electricity for milling, cooling and irrigation
- Reduced diesel and kerosene costs
- Lower emissions and indoor air pollution
The problem
Large parts of rural Africa remain without reliable electricity. Without power, clinics cannot store vaccines, students cannot study after dark and businesses cannot grow.
Proposed interventions
- Solar mini-grids with storage
- Solar home systems
- Public-facility solar installations
- Productive-use equipment programmes
- Solar street lighting
- Technician training
Delivery and operating model
Delivery model
Site selection with energy authorities, demand assessment, system design, then EPC+F delivery where a financing package is required. Operation by licensed operators or utilities under agreed tariffs.
Sustainable operating model
Regulated tariffs, prepaid metering and anchor customers such as clinics, schools and mills support financial viability; warranties and local technicians support reliability.
Beneficiaries and partners

Potential partners
Proposed impact indicators
- New connections by type
- Installed capacity (kW)
- Public facilities electrified
- System uptime
- Estimated emissions avoided
